Description

For sale: this special plot of land on the hill in the village of Cogolludo, with the remains of the 11th-century Castle of Cogolludo. It enjoys spectacular views over the entire region. Ideal for undertaking any project in an idyllic setting. Two adjoining plots are for sale: 1-The castle plot, with an area of around 1,300 m2. This plot has been rezoned as urban land for residential or tertiary use. The buildable area is around 1,800 m2. 2-Plot 950, with an area of 37.567 m2, part of which, 9.564 m2 next to the castle, has been rezoned for tertiary use. HISTORY OF THE CASTLE, It was built in the 11th century on the site of an earlier Muslim structure. In 1176, Alfonso VIII handed it over to the Order of Calatrava, which immediately enclosed the town with an imposing wall and improved the castle. It was repaired again in the 14th century and partially destroyed in the 19th century (1811). It is currently a Bien de Interés Cultural BIC and forms part of Spain’s Historical Heritage. LOCATION, Situated just under an hour from Madrid, with excellent transport links via the N-II and the R-II (toll motorway). Located in the heart of the Guadalajara mountain range, the roads become more winding as you travel farther north from this municipality, while pine forests and the first mountain ranges begin to appear. Just 3 km from Cogolludo are the Alcorlo and Beleña reservoirs, where a wide range of water sports can be practised throughout the year. MUNICIPALITY OF COGOLLUDO, A monumental town in the Sierra Norte region of Guadalajara, within Castilla la Mancha. Cogolludo’s main square is home to the remarkable Palace of the Dukes of Medinaceli, one of the first buildings of the Spanish Renaissance. In the Gothic church of Sta. María, visitors can admire the painting 'El Expolio' by José de Ribera (from the 17th century), and the doorway of the church of San Pedro is another example of Renaissance art in this town. The ducal town of Cogolludo has been described as the gateway to the Sierra because all the routes giving access to travellers heading for the Sierra del Ocejón and Ayllón, and the so-called Sierra Negra of Guadalajara, begin here. The latter is notable for the region associated with Arquitectura Negra, which is currently undergoing the process of being declared a World Heritage Site.
