Located in the heart of the Emporda, the village of Begur and its beaches make up one of the most wonderful places on the Costa Brava. Its municipal area consists of a group of hills called the Macizo de Begur, and an extensive coastline, bathed by the Mediterranean Sea.
Both the old town of Begur, made up of numerous monuments that remain as a legacy of the most significant moments in its history; and the small Romanesque settlement of Esclanya, or the eight coves and small beaches belonging to Begur, form an unparalleled ensemble and landscape setting.
Begur is a village with a deep historical character. In the shelter of its medieval castle, coral fishermen, fishermen, indianos and cork merchants have written brilliant pages of a history reflected in every street, every house and every corner of the village.
The best-known image of Begur is undoubtedly the medieval castle that presides over the municipality, but we also find other interesting places to visit, such as the numerous indianos houses colonial-style buildings, built by people from Begur who emigrated to 'the Americas 'in the 19th century, fleeing the economic crisis of the time, and later returned with a considerable fortune , the 16th-century defence towers a legacy of the time when pirates sailed the Mediterranean and built by the people of Begur as a means of shelter from their attacks , the church a Gothic-style building dedicated to Saint Peter or other historic buildings such as the Casino Cultural or the Escoles Velles.
