lofriu is a population centre in Palafrugell. It is located in the north of the municipality and extends across the plain of Llofriu, to the east. The old centre of Llofriu is an interesting ensemble of vernacular architecture, dating from between the 17th and 19th centuries. It consists of the group of houses surrounding the parish church of Sant Fruitos de Llofriu.
Within the centre, Can Bassa stands out, a building dating from 1889, in a popular neoclassical style, and the private residence of the Bassa Rocas family. It was the ancestral home of the Bassa Rocas family, made up of Joan Bassa and Irene Rocas and their nine children. Joan Bassa was one of the people from Llofriu who had emigrated to America as a young man, where he had established businesses. The house was acquired by Palafrugell Town Council and became a primary school CEIP , named M. Gracia Bassa. It is currently the Bassa Rocas Cultural Centre and the headquarters of the Llofriu Residents and Friends Association.
