Imagine arriving on a Friday afternoon. You park beside the cabin, switch off the engine... and hear nothing. Just the wind moving the grass and a bird or two in the chestnut trees. THE PROPERTY
It is more than a hectare of Asturias: 10.838 m2 on a hillside, with 8.329 m2 of green meadow and 2.402 m2 of mature eucalyptus woodland, which is standing timber. There is plenty of room for a vegetable garden, fruit trees, a few horses or simply to lie in the grass without anyone watching you. And one detail that is worth a lot in the countryside: water reaches the property through an old-style pipe, the one used to give the cows water.
From almost anywhere on the property, the view stretches out towards the valley, and at sunset the light falls on the hills in a way that no photograph can capture.
THE CABIN
In the middle of the meadow stands the stone cabin built in 1900, with thick rubble-stone walls, a curved-tile roof and that wooden gallery on the upper floor that is Asturias in its purest form.
Downstairs is the cowshed: 84 m2 of open-plan space, with the original stone manger still in place, where livestock ate more than a century ago. Upstairs is the hayloft: 72 m2 beneath an exposed timber structure, open to the valley through the gallery. Altogether, they add up to 175 m2 of built area.
Today it is what it has always been: a place to store tools and crops, shelter animals or have a place of your own to take refuge when you come up to the property. And with its stonework standing for more than a hundred years, it is one of those buildings that are no longer built.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
The cabin needs work: the roof and some of the timber need extensive renovation. The property does not have active water or electricity connections. Even so, water reaches it through an old pipe that supplied the livestock, and the power line runs alongside the plot, so there are options. It is being sold as rural land with its cabin in its current condition and use; any change of use would need to be checked with Grado Town Council. We are being clear about this so that anyone who comes to view it knows what to expect.
THE SURROUNDINGS
You can drive right up to the property, which is not always the case in the Asturian countryside. Grado is just a few minutes away, with supermarkets, a health centre, schools, its Sunday market and all amenities. Oviedo is about half an hour away. Close enough to come any afternoon and far enough away to hear nothing.
The owner also has other properties in the area that are not included in this sale, but which can be negotiated separately if anyone wants to expand.
