The Canary Islands have a Useful Agricultural Area (UAA) of 54 thousand hectares, of which 36% are permanent pastures, 35% woody crops and 17% arable land. The islands with the largest areas devoted to agricultural activities are Tenerife, Gran Canaria and Lanzarote, respectively. The predominant crops are vineyards and banana plantations (the latter being one of the most representative of the islands). Banana cultivation is widespread, especially in Gran Canaria, Tenerife, La Palma, El Hierro, La Gomera and Lanzarote. Although there are also other crops such as potatoes, empty orchards and avocados. Most of the livestock farms are poultry farms, with 2.6 million head. In the Canary Islands, you can find big game species: mouflon and Barbary sheep; as well as small game species: rabbit, partridge, turtledove, quail, pigeon and feral animals.
The Canary Islands is an archipelago located in the Atlantic Ocean. Formed by eight islands, five islets, eight rocks and the sea, it is an autonomous community of Spain. Its mountainous and rugged geography and mild temperatures make it possible to produce the only banana in the Canary Islands. Recognized by a quality seal at European level, the IGP seal, it is the first banana to acquire it. In 2021, its production was almost 412 thousand tons.
