The existence of areas with favorable climatic conditions for its cultivation has made Spain one of the leading producers in Europe. And, it is expected that when all the cultivated area comes into production (currently only 30% is in production), it will also become the fourth largest producer in the world, behind California, Iran, and Turkey.

In Spain, the most cultivated pistachio varieties in any pistachio farm are Kerman, Sirora, and Larnaka.



Kerman. This variety, of Iranian origin, is the most cultivated worldwide and has an average production. In Spain, it is mainly present in Castilla-La Mancha.



Sirora. A variety of Australian origin. Its cultivation is optimal in areas with Mediterranean climates. It has a high production, and in Spain, it is grown in areas where the conditions are insufficient for planting the Kerman variety.



Larnaka. Originating from Cyprus, it is characterized by its high production and by starting to bear fruit earlier than other varieties. Its cultivation is common in the central area of the Iberian Peninsula. While Kerman and Sirora are used for table and industrial purposes, Larnaka is cultivated solely for industrial purposes.
