Jaén is the province with the most farms in Spain, with more than 77 thousand farms. It also has 780 thousand hectares of Useful Agricultural Area (UAA), of which 74% are woody crops, 20% permanent pasture and 6% arable land. Its agriculture is based on olive monoculture. However, there are other growing crops such as pistachio, almond, fruit trees and vines. With respect to livestock, pig farms stand out, with about 127,000 head, followed by sheep and cattle farms. In Jaén, there are big game species such as mountain goats, deer, roe deer, fallow deer, wild boar and mouflon; and also small game species such as rabbits, partridges, hares, thrushes, pigeons and turtledoves.

The province of Jaén is located in the northeast of the Autonomous Community of Andalusia. From the geographical point of view, there are three main areas: Sierra Morena, the Guadalquivir depression and the Subbetica and Penibetica mountain ranges. The Natural Parks of the Sierras de Cazorla, Segura and Las Villas; Sierra Mágina; Sierra Andujar and Despeñaperros stand out. With more than 550 thousand hectares of olive groves and 60 million olive trees, Jaén produces 20% of the world`s olive oil and 50% of the national olive oil. The province of Jaén has three denominations of origin for olive oil: Sierra de Segura, Sierra de Cazorla and Sierra Mágina. The Mediterranean climate, dry and hot, makes Jaén the ideal location for this sea of olives.
